RiDE Guidelines

AUTHORS' GUIDELINES

Editorial Statement

Research in Developmental Education offers the developmental education professional concise and specific summaries and reports of research that influences the practice of the profession.

Editorial Priorities

Highest priority of publication will be assigned to:

  • articles that incline toward meta-analysis with application by:
    • providing a clear definition of some aspect (concern, area, practice, strategy, treatment) involving developmental education,
    • presenting a thorough review of substantive research on the topic,
    • synthesizing and evaluating this research,
    • discussing the implications and applications of this research as they pertain to developmental and learning assistance efforts

Also considered for publication will be:

  • reviews of research or theories that may be applicable to the practice of developmental education,
  • summaries of information or research that promote a better understanding of the scope and role of developmental education,
  • reviews of recently published research studies relevant to developmental education.
RIDE's Audience

Most of RIDE's readers are college and university faculty who teach basic English, reading, learning or study skills, and mathematics. Readership also includes college and university administrators, counselors, and teachers in higher education with some responsibility for serving underprepared students.

Manuscript Preparation

Manuscripts should be composed electronically in MS Word. They should be double spaced, and otherwise prepared according to the APA Style Manual, 5th Edition. Suggested length is about 12-15 pages. Manuscripts should be submitted via email attachment to the editor, D. Patrick Saxon.

RIDE offers four issues per volume. Every attempt is made to maintain the publication of one volume per academic year (September to August). The average time between manuscript acceptance and publication is four to six months.
