Education-Math Learning Specialist/Counselor: Coordinates the Math learning program. Works with undergraduate and graduate students individually, in groups and/or in classes on building self-confidence in math, reducing math anxiety, diagnosing math deficiencies, and providing other strategies designed to help students be successful in required mathematics courses. Tenure/Tenure Track Faculty of Higher Education Position, Open Rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full) Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis

The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis (ELPA) in the University of Missouri (MU) College of Education (COE) seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant, associate, or full professor level with an expertise in higher education leadership and/or policy. Candidates should demonstrate their scholarly expertise and teaching interests in one or more of the following areas within the field of higher education: organizations; governance; leadership; and/or politics and policy. Candidates should have the competence and interest to conduct research around critical issues in postsecondary education; teach in the department’s graduate programs, including the interdisciplinary EdD program; and advise graduate students at the masters and doctoral levels. There is a strong expectation that a qualified candidate will have the necessary interest and skills to secure external funding for research. The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate in higher education administration or a related degree by the time of appointment.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join a dynamic faculty engaged in research on critical issues in higher education leadership and policy and PreK-12 leadership and policy. The candidate will be provided strong college and department support to develop and maintain an individual research program and collaborate with colleagues throughout the department.

The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis is focused on preparing knowledgeable educational professionals in a collaborative and supportive environment honoring multiple perspectives and the recognition of individual and group efforts. The department is committed to issues of access and equity at all levels of education. ELPA currently offers degrees at the Master’s, EdS, EdD, and PhD levels. Curricular emphasis areas in the department include: (a) Higher Education Leadership and Policy Studies; (b)
PreK-12 Educational Leadership and Policy Studies; and (d) an interdisciplinary EdD program in PreK-20 educational leadership. In addition, ELPA hosts the Hook Center for Educational Leadership and District Renewal and the Middle Level Leadership Center, as well as urban, regional, multi-state, and international partnerships. Members of the department are also actively involved in the new Missouri PreK-20 Educational Research Center housed in the Truman School of Public Affairs.

MU is the oldest state university west of the Mississippi River and the largest of the four institutions in the University of Missouri System. It is one of the most comprehensive and diverse universities in the United States and proudly embraces the land grant mission. SUMMARY
The Executive Director for Developmental Education, working directly with faculty and the Associate Deans responsible for Math and English disciplines, provides leadership to ensure the accomplishment of the College's goal to improve the performance of students in Developmental Education.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides leadership and support to the faculty to explore and implement effective strategies for improving student performance and retention

Works with Associate Deans to assign faculty to teach Developmental Education courses and schedule courses

Collaborates with Directors of the Learning Centers to insure that the services provided in the centers support the needs of Developmental students

Collaborates with the Director for Faculty Professional Development to ensure that faculty development workshops, seminars and presentations are provided that support the work of those teaching Developmental Education

Works with the faculty to develop and implement a review cycle for assessment and placement processes to ensure the effective use of placement testing

Supports faculty in their outcomes assessment work for the Developmental Education curriculum

Researches and recommends, to the VP for Student Success, policies and procedures to improve the performance and retention of Developmental Education Students

Works with Planning and Institutional Effectiveness to collect and analyze data related to the performance of students placing into Developmental Education

Works with Workforce Solutions to support the transition of students requiring Developmental Education into the College's credit programs, including those students in the ABLE/GED programs
Serves on the Student Success Council, a body that considers policies, initiatives and resource issues associated with student retention and performance

Serves as the College's lead in Achieving the Dream as it continues to participate as an Achieving the Dream "Leader College"

Supports the development of grant applications for additional funding to support Developmental Education initiatives in collaboration with faculty  

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's in Developmental Education, Higher Education Administration, Education, or related area

Five years of progressively responsible administrative experience administering developmental education or similar programs in an educational setting

Demonstrated success in working with faculty teams to develop and implement successful strategies around Developmental Education

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and build consensus among various groups of counterparts

Evidence of successful teaching and curriculum development experience

Demonstrated knowledge of the current state of the Developmental Education field

Demonstrated expertise in cognitive psychology and learning theory

Demonstrated knowledge of the particular educational needs of developmental students in an urban setting

Experience with the use of technology in support of student learning

Sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population  

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in a multi-campus environment

Experience in successfully negotiating across divisions within a college or organization

Demonstrated ability to secure external funding

Strong presentation skills

Experience with continuous quality improvement and data-driven decision making  
Work Schedule Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.  
Target Hiring Rate/Salary 69k-94k Annualized  
Position Status This is a full time, Administrator, exempt, annual contract position, salary grade 15.
